Historical Picture of the Day- Colonel Stauffenberg meets with Herr Hitler

Today's "Historical Picture of the Day" is one of irony, in a sense, with a bottom portrait of Colonel Klaus Von Stauffenberg, the man leading Operation Valkyrie, the mission to assassinate Adolf Hitler; which, would have at least saved Germany from total annihilation had its effect been accomplished. However, Hitler survived and key strategic figures behind Operation Valkyrie's success pulled out, and remained loyal to the psychotic leader of Germany, thereby ending in the operation's failure. Here, he meets Hitler at the Wolf's Lair, a secret headquarters bunker in east Prussia, during the late stages of the war. Look at the top photo for a few minutes, and you will notice the irony and the intense nervousness in Colonel Stauffenberg's stature, just before he attempts to save Germany.
